How Project SEARCH Works
Project SEARCH at Ascension Texas offers each intern the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to live more independently as a gainfully employed individual engaged in the community.
Over the course of an academic year, Project SEARCH interns learn job skills applicable to many work environments, establish solid professional references, and experience hands-on training in a healthcare setting. They work closely with an on-site team, including an instructor, skills trainers and job developers.
Day-to-Day Work
Project SEARCH interns spend a majority of their day in internship rotations which offer opportunities to work in different hospital departments – such as surgical services, materials management, or the emergency department. Each rotation is ten to twelve weeks in length, during which the intern learns new skills and participates as a valued member of a hospital team. Their responsibilities impact the daily operations of our departments and are based in complex, systematic areas of the hospital.
